Sunday Morning Insight Meditation Study Group

If you are interested in deepening your meditation practice and understanding of the Buddha’s teachings, we invite you to join us in a study and discussion of talks by esteemed and dedicated Buddhist teachers in the Insight Meditation tradition.

We meet Sunday mornings at McFarland House, 716 Queen Street, in Saskatoon, SK, from 10 to 11 am, for 30 minutes of meditation followed by 30 minutes of sharing ideas generated by an audio talk we listened to in the previous week. The session is facilitated by one of the six members of the guiding collaborative. We round out the morning with conversation and tea. It’s a time for us to get to know each other and share on another level.

This group is an off-shoot of the Prairie Insight Meditation Community, founded and led by Jennifer Keane from 2007 to 2015. We are grateful for the clear path she left for us.

Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Bath with Katherine Dempsey

Date: Feb 28, 2019

Time: 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Enjoy the gift of sound in a Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Bath. Feel stress, tension and worry fall away as sounds of crystal singing bowls wash over you. Very quickly the beta brainwave frequency of active alertness shifts to meditative alpha. In this relaxed state the body opens and responds to sound at a cellular level.

Everything in the Universe, including our body, is composed of vibrations. Every organ and every cell in our body vibrates a particular frequency. Sound and vibration travels up to five times more effectively through water. As the body is made up of over 70% water, we can understand that sound and vibration can affect us at a cellular level. It has the capacity to gently release old pockets of blockage, old stories, discomfort and things things that no longer serve.

Katherine uses crystal singing bowls and the sounds of vocal toning and spirit song as she guides you in a meditative journey in this special event. As you relax and open you create more spaciousness within, more room to breathe and reconnect with your light within. You do not need to know how to meditate. The sounds and the guided meditation naturally ease you into a relaxed state. All you have to do is lie there and allow the healing sounds and vibrations wash over you. Effortlessly the Body, Mind, Spirit returns to peace and harmony.

What are Feldenkrais ATM classes?
Feldenkrais group classes are known as Awareness Through Movement® (ATM®) lessons. Similar to Tai Chi or gentle yoga, Awareness Through Movement classes use slow, mindful movements to achieve powerful effects in terms of strength, flexibility, and holistic integration of body and mind. Unique to the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education is that these lessons tie directly into functional movements of daily life, such as walking efficiently, safely lifting objects, and improving one’s posture in sitting or standing.

What can I expect from a class?
You can expect a class to last somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes. You might walk, stand, or sit in a chair, although usually, you will lie on the floor in a variety of comfortable positions: either on your back, front, or side. The teacher guides students through a sequence of movements, encouraging them to move with gentle attention within a comfortable range. You may become aware of unexpected and interesting connections within and between the movements. As you attend to the improving quality of movement, unnecessary muscular tensions throughout the body can reorganize and release. Students are often amazed at the quick and clear changes that occur through the neuromuscular repatterning that happens in an Awareness Through Movement lesson!
